When mixing music, it can be helpful to consider how dialogue is scripted and performed in films. Two characters rarely talk over each other in a film if they’re both expected to be understood. Similarly, if you have two instruments or elements of a song that you want to emphasize, you should ensure that they are not mixed in a way that will cause them to interfere with each other. Similarly, atmospheric and background elements are just as important in music mixing as they are in film making.
